Phoenix Software’s new CTO sets out “Office of the CTO” strategy

Craig Taylor, previously Phoenix’s Director of Cloud Solutions, is now Phoenix Software’s Chief Technology Officer. Taylor has already been with Phoenix for over ten years and joined the Phoenix Board of Directors in 2024.

Taylor has commented, “As CTO, I’m excited to lead Phoenix’s IT services business into a future that will be defined and shaped by AI and purpose-driven innovation. We serve thousands of public and private sector organisations across the UK and with our breadth of services capability and the long-standing trusted partnerships we have with them, together we can achieve something remarkable together. With the technology at our disposal, executed in the right way, we can play our part in helping the nation become a leader in AI.”

The Office of the CTO

In a recent blog, Taylor has stated that Phoenix will be moving to a “Office of the CTO” model, a shift designed to amplify the voices and capabilities of Phoenix’s technical leaders across consultancy, managed services, and overlay functions.

This model enables:

  • Alignment with customer needs through sector-specific expertise and solution development
  • Fostering innovation by empowering teams to ideate, experiment, and scale new services faster
  • Drive thought leadership in emerging areas like AI, cyber security, and cloud transformation

Taylor comments, “Our IT Services business is evolving and growing rapidly to meet the demands of an ever-changing market, with most of our staff now delivering in a form of technically focussed role. “

Taylor lays out Phoenix’s key priorities, which include:

  • Artificial intelligence: building on our full stack of AI capability across pro-code, low-code, Microsoft Copilot, GRC and end user adoption services. As one of the UK’s leading AI partners, we will expand our services to continually address sector specific needs
  • Maximise our unique experience and capabilities across on prem, hybrid and cloud platforms: with decades of experience building infrastructure and navigating many technology shifts across organisations datacentre estate, we are well placed to help organisations modernise applications, infrastructure and integrate AI, Security and data services depending on their specific needs
  • Cyber security: our breadth and depth of Security capability is developing rapidly from the high bar we have set ourselves; we will continue our aim to be the leading UK based cyber security services partner, working with a broad range of global security vendors
  • Managed services expansion: building end-to-end lifecycle services that transition seamlessly from IT projects to ongoing support for organisations we partner with, addressing the skills shortage and allowing organisations to focus on their business priorities
