Dr. Janusz Swierczynski, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, has recently expressed concern over some of the latest smart wearable innovations when it comes to their surveillance capabilities.
He comments:
“Privacy has a definition problem. It is often talked about as an issue of individuals (not) having control over their personal data. That’s certainly a part of privacy, but this definition ignores the fact that with nearly ubiquitous recording devices like smartphones, wearables, and digital doorbells, we increasingly have access to the personal data of other people – bystanders. This makes it impossible for an individual to always have control of their own privacy.”
In a recent article, which includes links to recent research, Dr. Swierczynski explores reactions to the latest wearables, which include questions raised about the footage that is captured, playing copyrighted music, and what protections, if any, are afforded for those that are on the other side.
